It’s finally time to drop the puck in the world’s greatest hockey league again. These two Canadian teams clashed in the playoffs first round last year, Calgary Flames and Vancouver Canucks. The Flames won that series 4-2, and since then the Flames has improved, while the Canucks hasn’t. Calgary has one of the NHL’s best defenses with Giordano, Hamilton (new from Boston), Wideman, Brodie (injured now) and Russell among others. Their offense contains a lot of skill, speed and youthful enthusiasm, when their leading players are Monahan, Hudler, Gaudreau and Bennett. Vancouver´s only offensive threat is the Sedin twins along with Vrbata. Besides that trio the Canucks forwards are mainly grinders. The Sedins, now 35 years old, can still do some damage, especially in PP, but they will not lead this team to another playoff. Mark my word. The Canucks made two summer acquisitions, Brandon Prust and Brandon Sutter. The first one, an aged fighter, who’s better in the locker room than on the ice. The other one a third line center, who´ll now play second line center in the Canucks weak offensive line-up. Those who´s left are the more numerous and even better player. This is the players who´s left Vancouver:
Kevin Bieksa – Anaheim.
Eddie Lack – Carolina.
Brad Richardson – Arizona.
Shawn Matthias – Toronto.
Nick Bonino – Pittsburgh.
Zack Kassian – Montreal.
Adam Clendening – Pittsburgh.
Vancouver feels blunt offensively, okay, but not more on the defensive end and Ryan Miller between the pipes has not been good since the Olympics in 2010. The Flames looks rather exciting on most positions and I think they take a premiere victory at home in Sattledome tonight. 2.22 on the Flames is the best odds today, you´ll find that odds at NordicBet.
